Rolling Compost bin

This is a video of a rolling compost bin made out of a food-grade 55 gallon steel barrel. The wheels are from an old cart. The whole thing cost about $20 and took about 2 hours to build.

The idea is to keep the compost aerated, so the bacteria can break down the plant material effectively. The problem with ordinary compost bins and piles is that you have to turn them regularly to keep them from going anerobic, which causes them to break down very slowly and stink. We are hoping that this bin will replace all three of our other bins in the background. But we have a backlog of compost to work through.

Hi Cami!

We put all sorts of stuff in the bin... When we clean out the chicken coop, all that goes in, along with kitchen scraps, leaves, weeds, etc. Pretty much anything besides meat and dairy. But egg shells are ok.

We're really looking forward to seeing you all!
